The 2014 Billygoat will be held in (almost) Western Massachusetts, land of fine open forests and numerous point features. The Baldwin Hill map was made in 2000, and has been used for several A-meets and local meets. This is a detailed glacial area with some climb, a sparse trail network, and a partial grid of stone walls

This year’s Billygoat will be approximately 13-14 km with an amount of climb that will depend substantially on route choice. As per Billygoat tradition, you can skip one control. The course is designed for advanced navigators. Anyone finishing in three and a half hours or less will earn the Billygoat shirt. There will also be a Pygmy Goat (just like a regular goat, but smaller) for those looking for a Billygoat experience on a more manageable scale, with the course approximately 7-8 km. This will be the same as the Billygoat except omitting a section of the course. For the Pygmy Goat, you can also skip one more control of your choice. Note that in addition to competing, you may also get to spectate as some of the faster orienteers in the Billygoat go by late in the course. The Pygmy Goat is also a mass start at 11:00 AM. Walk to the start for both events will be very short.

SportIdent timing will be used. Any type of SI-card can be used. If you do not have an SI-card, a NEOC loaner will be assigned to you. If you lose a loaner SI-card, you'll be asked to reimburse NEOC $40.

Late Registration Fee

After 11:59 PM Eastern Time, April 27, a $15 late registration fee will be applied.

The deadline for regular registration is Sunday, April 27, so we can order shirts. Anyone registering after April 27 may not get a shirt on the day. Pre-registration is also required for the Pygmy Goat.

Note that there are no shirts for the Pygmy Goat.

Recreational courses

There will be beginner (White/Yellow difficulty) courses. No pre-registration. Staggered starts.
Fee: free to NEOC members, $5 per entrant to others.
Sign up on the day, from 10:00 AM to Noon. Courses close at 2 PM.
