Courses:
W Sprint 1 Sprint 2

Courses Close:
1:30 PM

Course Descriptions:
These are hearty NEOC/CSU-type sprints with winning times in the 20s (minute-wise) and not the teens as at an A-meet. Markers are often on the far side of terrain features, which are mostly off-trail, although not far. Course lengths are approximate. There is some gradual climb on trails on all courses and some short steep climb to a few Sprint controls.
White 1.8km 7 controls, all on trail.
Sprint 1 3.2km 14 controls - little or no route choice.
Sprint 2 3.0km 12 controls - route choice on some legs.

Parking:
Parking is very tight - PLEASE CARPOOL IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.
  • There is a very small lot right at Start/Finish at the intersection of Enneking Parkway and West Smithfield. It will fill immediately.
  • Some - perhaps 8-12 cars - parallel parking (OVER THE WHITE LINE) is available on both sides of Enneking near Start/Finish.
  • A moderate - perhaps 18 cars - lot is just east of Start/Finish on Enneking.
  • On W Smithfield Street there is parallel parking (OVER THE WHITE LINE) several hundred meters south of Start/Finish.
  • As a last resort, we can use the Boston Trinity Academy .4 mile to the east of Start/Finish. BE CAREFUL walking on Enneking Parkway.

Comments:
Turtle Pond is a small, intricate forest in Dedham, MA with a detailed topography. It has not been used for an orienteering event since 2005. After much lobbying by NEOC regular Peter Amram, it has finally been added to the schedule. The park is well suited for tricky forest sprints with its small size and detail. Come orienteer inside the I-95 loop!
