Trail passes are required. Skis are available for rent from the Weston Ski Track. Check out the full regional Ski-O schedule at New England Ski-O.

Due to low snow conditions in eastern Massachusetts, the format of the ski-o at the Weston Ski Track is being modified to a ski-o-athlon.  This format of ski-o was first tested at the 2007 World Ski Orienteering Championships in Moscow, Russia, as an attempt to make ski-o more television-friendly, and modeled after the sport of biathlon.

Each skier must ski a given number of loops (determined by the course setter), and the skier’s map will have a normal course drawn on it.  However, at each control, there are many different flags in the area, and the skier must punch at the correct control.  After each lap, the skier will download, and then must ski a given number of “penalty loops”, according to how many mistakes the skier made in identifying the right control.  After skiing his requisite penalty loops, the skier can continue on to the next map.

Thanks to a new policy of the New England Orienteering Club, NEOC members can race for free, but all skiers must have a trail pass from the Weston Ski Track.  The WST also rents skis and boots if you don’t have equipment of your own.  The US Ski-O Team has a limited number of map holders for rent, as well.
