Meet Director: Jim Crawford
We had a great day for Orienteering: no clouds, temperature about 70, and lots of eager runners (99 total people). Families with little kids were out in force, with some spreading their blankets on the grass after orienteering and having picnics, others going to the splash park at one end of the map. A good percentage of the people were new to NEOC events. With the courses being on the short side, many people ran multiple courses, including first timers who ran White followed by Yellow, or yellow followed by Sprint-1.
With the rain of a week ago, the vegetation popped out everywhere; unfortunately that included the poison ivy that is rampant on the north section (Sprint-2). That also meant some of the controls and features were hidden. Multiple people mentioned to me that one control by a rock did not have a rock anywhere near it, but in reality the rock was completely covered by vines. But the most hidden control was one sitting inside a hollowed-out tree stump. I apologize to those who walked by the stump multiple times before they finally saw the flag inside.
As always, the meet was fun to do for me as meet director because of all of the capable help I had either helping at the tables or picking up controls: my family Anna, Raina, and Logan; Gabe Bronk; Tim Booth; Jim Paschetto; Bill Binette; and Ed Despard.
